A dying women's last request

 



In the mid 1990's when Kiliwea added 3/4 mile of land and pushed out the coast line covering homes in it's path. A women dying of cancer requesr was to have friends and family bring coconuts down to the newly formed land so that the land could be beautified for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The 20 years of growth shown in this picture may mean that it will be a few more generations before the beauty is restored.

This is were the Lava enters the ocean via lava tubes. As the lava hits the ocean water it explodes and some of the lava forms the black sand beachs.
